Annette’s Story: I Never Had to Hire a Lawyer Before, but I Could Tell Right Away I Was in Good Hands

Annette Story

When Annette was hit by a driver who ran a stop sign, she had no idea that her life was going to change forever.

“I had no idea what a brain injury was,” she told us. “It never occurred to me that I would even have to understand that at any point in my life.”

After going to the hospital, she was told she had a traumatic brain injury and referred to a neurologist. She contacted a personal injury attorney, but he realized immediately that her TBI was serious and required a specialist attorney.

He referred Anette to us, and we got to work right away.

“The Driver’s Insurance Company Tried Very Hard to Get Me to Accept a Small Amount”

In even the small amount of time between the car accident and when Annette found us, she was already getting almost-daily calls from the at-fault driver’s insurance company.

Their goal—as is usually the case—was to pressure Annette to accept a tiny payout.

This is a common tactic by insurance companies. If you accept a payout like that and sign the usual agreements they send, that’s often all you’ll ever be able to get, even if it turns out your injury is far more debilitating than you initially realize.

Thankfully, Annette knew enough not to accept any agreements, and once she started working with Brain Injury Law, we made sure all communications were directed to us.

But the monetary struggle was only a small piece of the puzzle. The real problem was how Annette was being affected by her brain injury.

“I Had No Idea I Would Never Be the Same Girl I Was.”

What always stands out for us, more than anything else, is how these injuries affect our clients. A brain injury is life-changing, and it’s our job to make sure our clients are taken care of during the often-long process of litigation.

Here’s what it was like for Annette.

“I was struggling a lot. I knew I wasn’t fine, and I was having a hard time with pretty much everything in life.”

“Driving was not something I was comfortable doing anymore. I struggled at my job, which I’d been at for over 30 years. It was hard for me to keep track of things.”

Because we’ve been working with clients like Annette for decades, we knew that she would likely need a lot of help.

“They actually took me to some appointments, including to meet with a neurologist to have some more imaging done.”

“They made sure all along the way that I knew exactly what was going on, when I had a choice to make, and what the choices were.”

“They let me make those choices without pushing me in one direction or another. I felt very heard and very well cared for.”

“My Biggest Fear Was That, Whatever I Was Awarded, I Would Lose Most of It in Legal Fees. That’s Not What Happened At All.”

“Before meeting the attorneys at Brain Injury Law, I was worried that I would have nothing left or very little left, that any lawyer I might hire would be skipping down the street with his pocket full of money.”

That’s not at all what happened. I never at any point wondered what would happen. I never worried that I would be cheated or that, all of a sudden, I would owe a lot of money.”

“Brain Injury Law was always very transparent about everything that was going on financially. I knew exactly where I stood with them at all times.”

“I received regular accountings of my balance with them, what they had done, and what it had cost.”

“I Felt Very Heard and Very Well Cared For.”

“I know that this is their business and that they do this every single day, but I felt so well cared for.”

“I don’t want to say the word love, but that’s what it felt like: That they wanted to make sure that I was okay in all ways.”

“They would check in with me periodically. I’d get a text message or a phone call from someone on the team to see how I was doing and how life was treating me, if I needed anything at all.”

“They were always available for me whenever I needed them.”

“They Always Emphasized That My Well-Being in the Future Is Their Main Goal”

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to not worry about anything money-wise for the rest of my life.”

“I never thought that I would be able to just let that stress go and know that for the rest of my life, I have enough money and enough resources to live out my life, whether I work or not.”

“I have chosen to keep working. I like my job, and I’ve been there for so long, and I like my boss, so I’m continuing to work, and my goal right now is to work as many more years as I can.”

“I am so grateful for Brain Injury Law. They worked really hard to settle my case. It was long, and it was painful because there was so much at stake for me.”

“Now, I can choose to work. I can choose to live on my terms.”

“I Would Much Rather NOT Have a Brain Injury. But the Settlement Helped Me Feel Like I’d Be Okay.”

Annette had this to say to anyone who has had a traumatic brain injury and is looking for an attorney:

“Don’t settle or deal with the insurance company of the person who injured you. Retain a lawyer right away.”

“At that point, they’ll stop calling you and bothering you because they’re checking in, hoping you’ll say something that will minimize your injury, which is what happened to me.”

“I am lucky that I got someone right away to tell me, ‘Don’t talk to them. Retain an attorney.”

If You’ve had a Traumatic Brain Injury, We’re Here to Help

“I would highly recommend them to anybody who’s suffered a brain injury. The biggest reason is that they have connections to all the right people who can help with diagnostics, expert opinions, and imaging.”

“For example, I had a neurological evaluation that lasted all day with a forensic neurologist. You’re not going to get that just anywhere.”

“You’re going to get the best opinions, help, medical advice, and screenings—things that never occurred to me.”

“I didn’t really understand what it meant to have a brain injury. But Brain Injury Law definitely knows what that means, and they know what it means for the rest of your life and your day-to-day life.”

“All I had to do was let them take care of me and do the research, let them gather the information, talk to the specialists, and then they would let me know what to do next.”

“I literally didn’t have to do very much other than keep appointments.”

“They were just always available for me whenever I needed them.”
