Tacoma, WA (October 14, 2025) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck left several people injured on Tuesday morning, October 14, on southbound Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome.

The crash happened around 6:28 a.m. when a sedan made an unsafe lane change and struck a pickup truck. The impact pushed the pickup across several lanes, where it collided with a semi-trailer before crashing into an empty tanker truck.

First responders rushed to the scene. Paramedics treated the victims at the scene before transporting them to nearby hospitals for emergency care. Authorities have not yet released details about their conditions.

The collision blocked several lanes of Interstate 5 and caused heavy delays during the morning commute. Crews cleared the scene and reopened the roadway just before 9:00 a.m.

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

    Truck Accidents in Washington

Crashes involving large trucks are among the most devastating events on Washington’s roads. The size and weight of tankers and semi-trailers create immense force in a collision, which often leads to catastrophic injuries and significant damage to smaller vehicles.

Thousands of truck crashes occur across the country each year, and many happen on major routes like Interstate 5 where heavy traffic and high speeds make conditions more dangerous. Some of the most common causes include:

    • Unsafe Lane Changes: Sudden or aggressive maneuvers often trigger chain-reaction crashes.
    • Driver Fatigue: Long hours behind the wheel slow reaction times and lead to dangerous mistakes.
    • Mechanical Failures: Faulty brakes or worn tires can make large trucks difficult to control.
    • Distracted Driving: Even brief moments of inattention can cause devastating collisions.

Victims of truck collisions often suffer severe trauma such as spinal cord injuries, internal organ damage, broken bones, and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). The brain is a soft and delicate organ, which makes it especially vulnerable during a violent crash. Even a single impact can cause memory loss, confusion, headaches, or balance problems that may last for years.

Immediate medical evaluation after a crash is critical. Many injuries, especially brain injuries, do not show symptoms right away but can worsen over time if left untreated.

Working with a legal team that understands the complexity of truck accidents in Tacoma is essential. These cases often involve multiple liable parties, such as drivers, trucking companies, and insurers, and require thorough investigation to prove negligence. A skilled team can gather critical evidence, negotiate with insurance providers, and fight for full and fair compensation.
