Tacoma, WA (November 7, 2025) – One person was killed and two others were airlifted to the hospital following a major collision on Thursday evening, November 6, on the Hood Canal Bridge.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 2006 Toyota truck traveling eastbound attempted to make a U-turn near the midpoint of the bridge around 5 p.m. The vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with a Mercedes-Benz SUV in a T-bone crash.

Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were flown to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. A 39-year-old passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

All lanes of State Route 104 were closed for about five hours while authorities investigated and cleared the wreckage. The roadway reopened around 10:15 p.m.

Officials with the Washington State Patrol continue to investigate the cause of the crash and any factors that may have contributed to the fatal collision.

    Fatal Car Accidents in Washington

Fatal traffic collisions like the recent crash in Tacoma highlight how quickly a routine drive can turn tragic. Each year, the Washington State Department of Transportation reports hundreds of deadly car crashes across the state, with many occurring on rural or high-speed routes such as State Route 104.

When these collisions happen, surviving family members often face emotional pain and financial strain. Funeral costs, lost income, and medical expenses can create overwhelming challenges. In such cases, it’s important to work with a car accident attorney who understands car accidents in Washington. Legal guidance can help families pursue compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, and loss of companionship.

Investigators often find that fatal car accidents result from one or more of the following factors:

    • Unsafe or illegal turns, such as U-turns on bridges or highways
    • Distracted or impaired driving
    • Speeding or unsafe lane changes
    • Driver fatigue

Each of these can dramatically increase the risk of a serious or deadly collision. When a driver’s poor decision leads to loss of life, a wrongful death claim allows loved ones to seek justice and accountability.
