Skyway, WA (July 26, 2025) – A woman lost her life on Thursday night following a chain-reaction crash that began when an RV collided with multiple parked vehicles along the 11000 block of 68th Avenue South in Skyway.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived on the evening of July 24 after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian and fled. Witnesses reported that a recreational vehicle struck several parked cars and trucks. One of those vehicles, a truck, was pushed into a woman who had been walking nearby. The impact knocked her to the ground, and she became pinned beneath the truck.

Firefighters from Skyway responded and used an emergency jack to lift the truck. Despite the efforts of medics on the scene, the woman was pronounced dead.

As of now, the RV and its driver have not been located. Authorities have classified the case as a vehicular homicide and the King County Major Accident Response and Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity following proper notification of her family.

    Pedestrian Accidents in Washington

Washington has seen a steady rise in pedestrian fatalities over recent years. In 2023 alone, the state reported more than 130 pedestrian deaths—a number that reflects a concerning trend in roadway safety. Poor visibility, distracted driving, and impaired motorists continue to play a major role in these incidents.

Understanding how and why these events occur can help communities work toward meaningful change. Here are some key insights about pedestrian-involved crashes:

    • Visibility Issues: Many pedestrian accidents happen at night or in poorly lit areas. Even in residential neighborhoods, drivers often struggle to see people walking near the road if there are limited streetlights or if pedestrians wear dark clothing.
    • Impaired Drivers: Alcohol and drug impairment are frequently involved in deadly pedestrian crashes. Impaired drivers often have slower reaction times and reduced awareness of their surroundings, which can have tragic consequences.
    • High-Speed Roads in Urban Areas: Roads that allow high speeds in residential or commercial zones can be particularly dangerous. Pedestrians crossing these routes may not be visible until it’s too late for a vehicle to stop in time.
    • Lack of Sidewalks or Crosswalks: In some communities, pedestrians are forced to walk in the roadway due to a lack of designated walkways, increasing the risk of injury or death.
    • Hit-and-Run Incidents: When drivers flee the scene, it delays medical care for victims and complicates the investigation. This also signals a larger issue about accountability and driver behavior.
