Pierce County, WA (October 17, 2025) – Two people, including a Washington State Patrol trooper, were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on southbound Interstate 5 on October 16.

According to officials, the incident occurred shortly after midnight near the King County line. The trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the shoulder when another vehicle struck the patrol car. In total, three vehicles were involved in the crash.

Emergency medical teams responded and treated the injured trooper and the driver of the vehicle that had been pulled over. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.

Authorities confirmed that one driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence. Two right lanes of the interstate were temporarily closed as investigators and a WSP Collision Technical Specialist examined the scene.

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and the events leading up to it.

    Car Accidents in Pierce County

Car accidents in Pierce County remain one of the most frequent causes of serious injury across Washington State. Interstate 5, in particular, sees high volumes of traffic each day, and even a brief moment of distraction or impairment can lead to devastating outcomes. When alcohol is involved, as in this recent crash, the risks to law enforcement officers, drivers, and passengers increase dramatically.

Every year, the Washington State Patrol and local authorities respond to thousands of crashes involving impaired driving. These incidents often lead to severe injuries such as broken bones, spinal damage, and traumatic brain injuries. Victims who suffer these types of harm may face long recovery periods and costly medical expenses.

It’s crucial to consult with a personal injury attorney who has experience handling cases involving car accidents. A skilled legal professional can investigate the cause of the crash, collect evidence, and ensure that victims receive fair compensation for their losses. Damages may include:

    • Medical bills and rehabilitation costs
    • Lost income from missed work
    • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress
    • Future medical needs related to brain or spinal injuries

Traumatic brain injuries are a very serious but often overlooked outcome of car crashes. Because the brain is a soft, sensitive organ, even low-speed impacts can cause lasting trauma. Victims may experience symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, or difficulty concentrating days after the crash. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for recovery.
