North Bend, WA (November 1, 2025) – A serious head-on collision on Friday, October 31, left one person critically injured and two others hospitalized along Interstate 90 near North Bend. The crash occurred near milepost 31 in King County.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a silver car traveling westbound was forced off the road by another vehicle. The driver lost control, crossed the median, and slammed head-on into a black truck traveling eastbound.

The impact left both vehicles heavily damaged, and multiple people were trapped inside. Eastside Fire and Rescue crews arrived within minutes and worked urgently to free the victims from the wreckage.

Troopers said one person was found unconscious and suffering from life-threatening injuries. Paramedics provided emergency care at the scene before transporting the victim to a nearby trauma center. Two additional people sustained serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities closed all eastbound lanes of I-90 during the response. By 10:30 a.m., officials reopened one lane in each direction, but traffic remained backed up for several miles. The roadway was fully reopened by noon.

Investigators are still reviewing whether speeding, distraction, or impairment played a role. The Washington State Patrol confirmed that the investigation remains active.

    Car Accidents in Washington

Car accidents in Washington remain a leading cause of serious injuries across the state. Highways like Interstate 90 are especially dangerous due to heavy traffic, unpredictable weather, and frequent lane changes at high speeds. These conditions often increase the risk of head-on crashes and other severe collisions.

Most head-on crashes are caused by preventable behaviors such as distracted driving, fatigue, or impaired judgment behind the wheel. When a driver drifts into oncoming traffic or overcorrects after losing control, the results can be devastating. Poor visibility, speeding, and aggressive lane maneuvers also play a significant role in collisions like the one reported near North Bend.

Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents. The combined speed of two vehicles moving in opposite directions magnifies the force of impact, often leaving victims with catastrophic injuries. Even with seatbelts and airbags, occupants can suffer serious trauma to the head, neck, spine, and internal organs.

One of the most serious consequences of a high-impact crash is a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The brain is a soft and delicate organ, so even a mild collision can cause bruising, bleeding, or other internal damage that disrupts normal function. Victims may experience headaches, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, or changes in memory and mood.

Prompt medical attention is critical after any collision, even if symptoms appear mild. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications that develop over time.
