Monroe, WA (December 11, 2025) – A 26-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian crash on Tuesday morning, December 9, along US Highway 2 near Kelsey Street in Monroe.

According to the Monroe Police Department, an employee of the King County Sheriff’s Office was driving westbound in an unmarked vehicle when the vehicle struck the woman in the roadway. The impact caused critical injuries.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided lifesaving care before transporting the woman to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she later died from her injuries.

Police closed the westbound lanes of Highway 2 for several hours while they investigated the scene and redirected traffic onto Blueberry Lane Southeast. Crews later towed the involved vehicle to the Monroe Police Department for further examination.

Officials have not released details about what led to the crash. The Monroe Police Department continues to investigate the tragic collision.

    Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Washington

Fatal pedestrian crashes remain a serious concern across Washington, especially along busy highways such as US Highway 2. These roadways carry steady traffic and often provide limited protection for people on foot. When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the human body absorbs the full force of the impact, often causing catastrophic injuries within seconds.

Pedestrian accidents are often caused by drivers failing to yield to pedestrians in the roadway, making unsafe turns, or not seeing pedestrians in time. Many crashes also happen when vehicles travel too fast for conditions or when visibility is reduced by darkness or weather.

Families who lose a loved one in a pedestrian crash often face sudden emotional and financial strain. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of future income can quickly become overwhelming. A personal injury attorney who understands pedestrian accidents can help families pursue wrongful death claims and protect their rights.

Compensation in these cases may help cover:

    • Funeral and burial expenses
    • Loss of income and future financial support
    • Medical costs tied to emergency treatment
    • Emotional loss and loss of companionship

Fatal pedestrian crash investigations often require careful review of police reports, traffic evidence, and witness statements. Legal teams may also work with accident reconstruction specialists to determine what happened and who may be responsible.
