Lynnwood, WA (October 6, 2025) – Two women suffered injuries in a wrong-way crash on Sunday, October 5, along State Route 524.

The Washington State Patrol reported that the collision happened around 1:15 a.m. near the intersection with Interstate 405. Investigators said a 23-year-old driver was traveling in the wrong direction in the westbound lanes when their vehicle struck an oncoming car head-on.

The 31-year-old driver of the other vehicle could not avoid the crash, according to troopers. Both drivers sustained injuries and were taken to Providence Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities noted that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision.

    Wrong-Way Accidents in Washington

Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents. Across Washington State, collisions caused by drivers traveling in the wrong direction often result in severe injuries. These accidents usually happen late at night or early in the morning, when visibility is lower and impaired driving is more likely.

Troopers with the Washington State Patrol frequently cite alcohol or drug use as factors in these crashes. Wrong-way collisions are especially serious because they typically involve head-on impacts. That type of impact creates strong forces that can cause spinal injuries, broken bones, and traumatic brain injuries.

It’s important to work with a personal injury attorney who understands the impact of car accidents and how they affect victims and their families. Victims may be entitled to recover compensation for medical bills, lost income, rehabilitation costs, and pain and suffering.

Some common factors behind wrong-way accidents include:

    • Impaired driving due to alcohol or drugs.
    • Drivers entering highways or ramps in the wrong direction.
    • Fatigue, distraction, or medical emergencies.

Crash victims should pay special attention to brain injuries. Because the brain is such a delicate organ, even minor crashes can cause traumatic brain injuries. These injuries may not be obvious right away, but can still affect memory, mood, or coordination.
