Dupont, WA (November 10, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 5 near the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge left one person seriously injured on Sunday, November 9.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. at Milepost 116, about two miles east of Dupont. Investigators said two vehicles were traveling in the third lane when one rear-ended the other. A woman driving a Honda Accord reportedly struck a Nissan Rogue from behind, sending both vehicles into ditches on opposite sides of the roadway.

Authorities said the Rogue, occupied by two men in their 20s from Hawaii, came to rest in the right shoulder ditch. Medics transported one of the men to Madigan Hospital with serious injuries, while the other escaped unharmed. The driver of the Accord, a 36-year-old woman from Everett, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.

Two right lanes of northbound I-5 were closed until about 9 a.m. while troopers investigated and the Washington State Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

    Car Accidents in Washington

Car accidents in Dupont and across Washington State remain a leading cause of serious injuries every year. Collisions on major routes like Interstate 5 often happen because of speeding, distraction, or impaired driving. When crashes occur at high speeds, the impact can cause significant harm—even to those wearing seat belts.

Common causes of car crashes in Washington include:

    • Distracted or impaired driving
    • Following too closely or unsafe lane changes
    • Fatigue or drowsy driving
    • Poor weather or low visibility
    • Excessive speed

After a collision, victims often face long recovery times and unexpected expenses. Medical treatment, therapy, and lost income can quickly add up. It’s important to work with a personal injury attorney who understands car accidents and can help guide you through your recovery process. Legal guidance is especially vital when another driver’s negligence, such as driving under the influence, contributed to the crash.

Many accident victims also experience head injuries that may not be obvious right away. Even a minor bump or jolt can cause lasting problems, from headaches and dizziness to difficulty concentrating. Because the brain is a soft and delicate organ, even a seemingly minor impact can lead to long-term effects.
