Everett, WA (September 25, 2025) A deadly crash shut down lanes of southbound I-5 on Wednesday, September 24, in Everett. The collision happened at approximately 2:15 a.m. near the Everett Mall, according to investigators.

Reports indicate that the crash involved a commercial truck and a Vespa scooter. The Vespa was found on the left shoulder, unoccupied. The scooter’s rider, a 63-year-old Everett man, was walking in the third lane when the truck struck him with devastating force.

The impact left the man critically injured in the roadway. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but he died at the site of the crash. Detectives remained on I-5 for several hours, blocking the HOV and two left lanes as they gathered evidence and examined debris. Traffic backed up for nearly five miles, approaching US 2, before lanes reopened shortly before 7:00 a.m.

Authorities continue to investigate this tragic crash, and further details will be released as they become available.

    Fatal Scooter Accidents in Washington

Scooter-related crashes are becoming a growing safety concern across Washington. Riders are among the most vulnerable road users, and when collisions occur, the results are often catastrophic. Without the protective frame of a car, scooter riders face direct impact with vehicles and pavement, making fatal outcomes far more likely.

Key risk factors in scooter crashes include:

    • Limited Visibility: Scooters are small and often go unnoticed, especially during nighttime or early morning hours.
    • Highway Dangers: Interstates and other high-speed roads put riders at extreme risk from trucks and fast-moving traffic.
    • Driver Awareness: Many drivers fail to see scooters in time, particularly in blind spots or heavy traffic.
    • Environmental Conditions: Darkness, weather, and road design reduce visibility and shorten reaction times for everyone on the road.

Families who lose loved ones in scooter accidents are left facing overwhelming grief and financial burdens. Beyond funeral expenses, they may also struggle with the sudden loss of companionship, income, and stability. These cases often raise questions of liability and require careful investigation to determine whether negligence played a role.

It’s important to work with an attorney who understands Everett wrongful death claims and the unique challenges that follow. Strong legal guidance helps families recover compensation for funeral costs, medical bills, lost income, and emotional suffering.
