Tacoma, WA (November 21, 2025) – A woman died after a vehicle struck her on Thursday, November 20, in downtown Tacoma. The collision happened on the southbound side of Interstate 705 near the South 11th Street exit.

Troopers from the Washington State Patrol responded to the scene around 9:45 p.m. According to officials, the driver hit a 40-year-old woman. Emergency personnel arrived quickly, but she died at the scene from her injuries.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 705 remained closed for about three and a half hours while investigators examined the area and gathered evidence. Troopers have not released further details about what led to the crash.

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

    Pedestrian Accidents in Washington

Pedestrian accidents in Washington continue to raise safety concerns, especially in busy areas near major highways. When a person is struck by a vehicle, the outcome is often severe because pedestrians have no protection against the force of a moving car. Washington traffic data shows that pedestrian deaths have increased in recent years, and many of these incidents happen in urban zones with heavy traffic flow.

Fast-moving vehicles, limited visibility, and nighttime travel all increase the chances of a serious crash. Understanding these risks can help people make safer choices while traveling through the area.

It’s crucial to consult with a pedestrian accident attorney who has experience handling cases involving wrongful death claims when a fatal pedestrian accident in Tacoma occurs. A skilled legal team can help families understand what compensation may be available. This may include funeral costs, lost income, and damages for emotional hardship. Each case is different, so legal guidance plays an important role in helping families move forward.

Families often feel overwhelmed after a deadly pedestrian crash. A legal advocate can help by gathering evidence, reviewing police reports, and working with experts to understand what happened. Because these cases often involve complex questions about right-of-way, visibility, and driver behavior, having support can ease the process.
