    Tumwater, WA (July 19, 2025) – A law enforcement operation led to a multi-vehicle accident early Friday morning near the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Tumwater Boulevard, leaving one person with critical injuries.

    Authorities say that around 8:45 a.m. on July 18, officers located an 18-year-old suspect with an active warrant sleeping inside a vehicle off New Market Street in a parking lot. In anticipation of a possible escape, an intervention device used during pursuits was placed under the vehicle. After waking up, the man would not exit the vehicle. Instead, he drove off, initiating a brief pursuit.

    The suspect collided with two other vehicles at Capital Boulevard and Tumwater Boulevard. One of those vehicles swerved into a nearby building, resulting in serious injuries to its driver, who was flown by emergency helicopter to Harborview Medical Center. The people inside the second car suffered minor injuries. No injuries were reported from those inside the building, which was not penetrated by the vehicle.

    After fleeing on foot, the suspect was captured shortly afterward and taken into custody. Officials are currently processing him for driving under the influence. The suspect vehicle, a new GMC Denali with temporary tags, was discovered to have been taken during a carjacking in Tukwila on July 10. A

    uthorities have not yet confirmed whether the suspect in today’s incident was involved in that earlier case. Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
