Puyallup, WA (December 21, 2025) – A 4-year-old child and three family members suffered injuries on Sunday, December 21, when a fleeing driver ran a red light and caused a violent crash in Puyallup.

The incident began just before 10:00 a.m. when officers tried to contact a suspicious vehicle in a business parking lot. According to the Puyallup Police Department, the driver sped away before officers could approach. Police did not give chase, but within minutes, witnesses reported a severe crash at the intersection of 31st Avenue Southwest and State Route 512.

When first responders arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles and a family of four trapped inside one of them. The impact crushed the front of the family’s car as they attempted a legal left turn. Paramedics treated the victims at the scene before rushing them to nearby hospitals. One of the children, a 4-year-old, suffered critical injuries.

The 21-year-old suspect from Graham also sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he remains under police investigation. Officials closed the 31st Avenue overpass for several hours as investigators examined debris, photographed evidence, and reconstructed the events leading to the crash.

    Car Accidents in Washington

Car crashes are among the most devastating collisions in Washington. They often occur within seconds and can involve several cars at once. A single reckless act like running a red light or ignoring a stop signal can cause major injuries and property damage.

Frequent causes of car accidents in Washington include:

    • Running red lights or stop signs, often leading to high-speed side impacts
    • Distracted driving, including phone use or in-car distractions
    • Sudden or unsafe lane changes in heavy traffic
    • Failure to yield while turning or merging
    • Aggressive or reckless driving during police encounters or traffic stops

Victims in these crashes often face long recoveries and unexpected financial strain. Injuries may include fractures, internal bleeding, or traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). The brain is a soft and delicate organ, and even minor impacts can cause serious, lasting harm. Symptoms like dizziness, headaches, and memory loss may appear days after the crash.

It is important to work with a personal injury attorney who understands car accidents and how to handle complex claims. A legal team can gather evidence, review police findings, and negotiate with insurers for full compensation.
