Emergency responders transported all four individuals to nearby hospitals for treatment. One person, however, was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital.

    Car Accidents in Washington

In Washington State, 2023 saw a record-high 810 traffic fatalities, the most since 1990. Preliminary data shows that, in 2024, that number declined by about 9.6%, to 731 fatalities. While this drop is encouraging, the count for 2024 remains significantly elevated—around 36% higher than the 2019 total.

Fatal crashes are overwhelmingly tied to risky behaviors. In 2024, around 48% of fatalities involved impaired driving (alcohol or drugs), and 34% involved excessive speed, with a large overlap between those two. Other critical factors include distracted driving, not wearing seat belts, and pedestrian-related incidents. Together, impaired driving, speeding, distraction, and failure to buckle up—the so-called “fatal four”—account for at least 75% of traffic deaths in the state.
