Lynnwood, WA (July 4, 2025) – A suspected drunk driver led police on a pursuit that ended in a violent crash Tuesday night, leaving multiple people hurt near the 196th Street exit off Interstate 5 in Lynnwood.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies attempted to pull over a 33-year-old Marysville man around 10 p.m. for suspected DUI. When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit began toward Alderwood Mall Parkway. During the chase, the suspect allegedly T-boned a vehicle carrying five people, including two children.

Emergency crews responded and transported the minors to Swedish Mill Creek Hospital for precautionary evaluation. The suspect and his passenger were also taken to the hospital. After receiving medical care, the driver was arrested and booked on charges including DUI, attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license, and a prior felony warrant. Local authorities continue to investigate the incident.

    Car Accidents in Washington

Each year, Washington sees thousands of accidents caused by impaired drivers. According to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, alcohol and drug impairment remain top contributing factors in serious collisions and fatalities statewide. In 2022 alone, more than 500 deaths were connected to DUI-related crashes, underscoring the danger reckless drivers pose to others on the road. Knowing what victims may face after a DUI crash helps families prepare. Below are a few key points to understand about these incidents:

    • Police Pursuits and Public Danger: When a suspect flees, the risk extends to innocent drivers and passengers. Pursuit crashes often happen at high speeds, increasing the chance of severe injuries like traumatic brain injuries and spinal trauma.
    • Children Involved in Crashes: When children are passengers during a collision, they face unique risks. Their developing brains and bodies make them more vulnerable, sometimes requiring specialized care and ongoing monitoring.
    • Repeat DUI Offenses: Drivers arrested for DUI often have prior violations. Holding repeat offenders accountable is vital to prevent future tragedies and protect communities.
    • Medical Costs and Recovery: Serious injuries frequently result in costly emergency care, surgeries, and rehabilitation. Families must plan for long-term treatment and therapy to manage brain injuries or other life-changing conditions.
    • Long-Term Effects of Head Injuries: Brain injuries from crashes can impact memory, behavior, and the ability to work. Many victims need years of treatment and support to regain independence.
